HealthPoint Services Wins Prestigious India Sankalp Award, Announces Investment by Fontus Water
NEW DELHI, India – May 12, 2011: Healthpoint Services Global, Inc., a social enterprise supported by Ashoka Innovators for the Public, has won the prestigious Sankalp Award for Innovative Social Enterprises - Emerging Ventures in the Health/Water/Sanitation sector for 2011. This award acknowledges HealthPoint as the most innovative and promising health-oriented social enterprise in India this year.
The honor recognizes Healthpoint’s E Health Point model —rural clinics that provide safe drinking water, affordable primary healthcare delivered via telemedical video consultations by qualified doctors and supported by electronic health records, modern diagnostic tests, and a licensed pharmacy. HealthPoint Services has successfully conducted more than 10,000 diagnostic investigations, 22,000 medical consultations, 28,000 filled prescriptions, and serves more than 50,000 people daily with safe drinking water. The company has also created job opportunities across villages. With its services, the organization has helped villagers cut down on costs borne due to water-related diseases and travel costs to urban centres for healthcare.
The organization has also successfully managed to record a positive cash flow, proving the sustainability of E Health Point pay-and-use business model.
Amit Jain, President and CEO of HealthPoint Services India Pvt. Ltd, said, “We are extremely gratified and humbled by the Sankalp Award. This certifies that we are making significant progress toward our goal of transforming rural healthcare in India and elsewhere. This investment will help fuel the venture’s ambitious growth plans. Dr. Kewal Nohria, Chairman of EarthWater Group, said, “We are very pleased to have formed a strategic partnership with Healthpoint Services. We are optimistic that this partnership will help us improve conditions in rural India.”
